Step 5 |
|
Plant your mini plants evenly spaced in
the compost, around the bottle. For
a large bottle, 5 plants will be enough.
|
|
|
Spread a thin layer of gravel on top of
the compost. This will make your plants
visible, and it will act as a mulch to prevent
drying out. |

Step 6 |
|
|
|
|
Water in, making sure you don't swamp them.
A cupful of water three times a week should
be sufficient, depending on the temperature,
and time of year. |
Finally:
Place your garden in a light position, and
maintain watering. You will need to
replant your garden at the end of the growing
season, as your miniature plants will not
stay miniature. Just take them out,
and pot into 3" pots, and replace.
Over the winter the new plants in your bottle
garden won't grow all that fast, but it
is wise to replant your bottle garden twice
a year. There is no need to feed your
plants in the bottle garden, as they only
stay there for 6 months, and there are plenty
of nutrients in the compost. When
potting on, however, give them a feed if
it is in the spring. Remember to give
the bottle a good scrub before replanting,
to prevent disease. |
